7 April 2024 Spring Birding at Blue Heron Preserve and Troy Wetlands

We were both eager for a return to the recently opened Blue Heron Preserve

We stopped at Troy Wetlands hoping for another strong birding spot.

5 April 2024 Mergansers at Allegany State Park

I was returning from business in the Niagara Falls area and stopped at Allegany State Park. It was a grey day with snow flakes dotting the air, but the mergansers were worth braving the cold.

They looked as though they were racing.

2 April 2024 Spring Awakens

The stream was running. Bluebells were near to opening. Trout lily leaves were plentiful as spring arrived in Pennsylvania.

31 March 2024 Visiting Local Nature Preserves

It was a grey Easter. We decided to check spring's progress at a local nature area Lucia Nash Preserve. We were greeted by a pair of trumpeter swans and a variety of ducks on the water.

Our walk in the woods showed the progress of spring with skunk cabbage in bloom by a wetlands area.
