10 July 2009 Frohring Meadows

We stopped to avenge a dnf from Easter. We found the first two stages of a four-stage multi and missed stage 3. THis evening we wanted to see how the prarie flower efforts were proceeding in the second year. Other than small clusters that dot the fields, there were few wildflowers to be seen. We did get muggled by a great looking toad at the third stage.

12 April 2009 A DNF in Frohring Meadows

We stopped by here for a walk in the woods and a multi hunt. We had found the first cache hidden here last year. The one this year has had only our friend Chris as a finder so far, and it took him a couple hours. It's a three-mile loop through the park plus four stages of a multi. We knew we would be here for a while, but didn't expect to leave with a dnf. This is a tough cache. We got the first two stages and left two for later. While spending a looooong time looking for stage 2, I saw an interesting looking downed tree with the cells below. While we were taking a blind look or two for the final, Ali found a glass dump. These were fairly common at old farms. This one is fairly large, but except for the amber Clorox bottles with the Clorox name in the bottle, the bottles weren't overly interesting.
The woods were at the almost stage with wildflowers. We found lots of things almost open but the spice bush below was as near as an open blossom as we found. The great things about a dnf in the woods is you get to spend time in the woods and you get to return for another look.

2 August 2008 Just Relaxing
It's a beautiful morning,

I think I'll go outside a while,

And just smile.

Just take in some clean fresh air!

Ain't no sense in staying inside

If the weather's fine

and you got the time.

It's your chance to wake up

and plan another brand new day.

Either way,

It's a beautiful morning,

Each bird keeps singin' his own song.

So long!

I've got to be on my way, now.

Ain't no fun just hangin' around,

I've got to cover ground, you couldn't keep me down.

It just ain't no good if the sun shines

When you're still inside,

Many thanks to the Young Rascals for saying it so well. Someone recently visited this blog through its Waymarking page and refered to the visit as feeling like a voyeur. I never thought of it that way. Our journey today never got more than 6-7 miles from home. We visited in order the farmer's market in Russell, the art show and trails of Geauga Park's Westwoods, Muggleton Farms, Frohring Meadows, and Fantasy Island. If your either a geocacher or a Harry Potter fan, you have to smile at the thought of walking or caching at Muggleton Farm. It was a special summer day. I hope you enjoyed the photos. :-)

8 April 2008 Frohring Meadows

We had stopped here in the snow to hunt for a cache. We had a great time with the snowshoes, but no cache. This evening, we returned for a shot at two multis. Success was ours. We found both caches. We had a three-mile walk though the woods. We also heard peepers, saw our first trout-lily leaves, and found this pond with really large egg masses. Hopefully, one of the summer posts will show these fields filled with prairie flowers.

9 March 2007 Snowshoe Caching

It was a glorious day to be out and a day to notice the surroundings and little things on the trail. I had to chuckle at the thought of all the local churches that announced on the news their services had been canceled the evening prior. Wet roads and a plowed parking area awaited us. The trail through this new park is about three miles long. We found stage one and missed stage two for a dnf. Still it was a grand day to be out. The last photo shows almost two dozen whistler swans. Their song filled the air as they made their way north. Spring is getting near.

15 December 2007 Quiet time in Geauga

We got to spend a happy, quiet day today. We had hoped to go to the Cleveland Zoo for a visit, but decided no with the predicted snow. Instead we grabbed a couple of local caches that seem to be piling up near the house. I finished more shopping, and we got some walking in near Silver Creek and Frohring Meadows. Once the snow really got started, we headed home for hot chocolate and a chance to cook real food before I hit the road again. Now that Frohring Meadows is reseeded for prairie flowers it will be great to watch the progress next spring and summer.
