26 April 2021 Orange Moon

25 April 2021 Mentor Lagoons

I have become a huge fan of Mentor Marsh.

This is not going to end happily.

Round one goes to the heron.  It was time to move along the path to see what else might be waiting.

There were at least a dozen wood ducks at this stop.  Spotting a couple in a day is a great day.

I took a break from the birds to enjoy a few remaining spring wildflowers still in bloom.

One last look for food

This evening's moon was impressive as it rose in the blue, evening sky.

24 April 2021 Tinkers Creek

Ali was away.  I planned to make a trip to the west side of Cleveland for a few errands and some geocaching.  The errands were easy and I found a geocache series.  I moved on to Parma to hunt a few more caches.  I started on the trail at a Parma Park and realized I wanted to be hiking and not caching.  I headed back to the car and the east side of the county.

I used to live near to Tinkers Creek gorge.  The area is a super place to spend time on the trail.  I stopped at the top of the gorge to walk a trail with views of Tinkers Creek.

All went well until I tripped over a tree root while looking for wildflowers.  I have new glasses, but put them aside during the pandemic when I realized wearing a mask was ruining the fit of my glasses.  Since I am still wearing a mask while indoors and errands were going to take me indoors, I wore my old glasses.  The trip sent the glasses flying and me slowly covering ground looking for my glasses.  Eventually the glasses were found, and I was back on the trail. The wildflowers were disappointing with only a few drooping red trilliums for my walk.  The walk was just what I needed.

23 April 2021 Visiting Sunny Lake

I enjoyed spotting mergansers at the office today.

After work I decided to see if I could extend my luck and spot ducks at a couple small ponds at Sunny Lake.

I had no luck with ducks, but the evening was peaceful.

I was glad we still had seeds for a late snow bird feeding.

18 April 2021 Wonderful Wildflowers

We were happy to be in Pennsylvania for the spring wildflowers.  It was a great walk on the trail...

17 April 2021 Exploring the ANF

We stopped at a cemetery in Tidioute before moving on to the ANF.  The cemetery has a number of interesting markers including some very well preserved zinc markers.

The Condererate War memorial was a zinc work.  Zinc is an unusual choice for these markers, but this one is in great shape.

There's always something new to see in a journey through the ANF.  Today we were looking for a milestone geocache and hoping to enjoy a spring day in the woods.  We spotted an early salamander on the way.

14 April 2021 Wintergarden

I hadn't visited Wintergarden since late summer 2019.  I was heading east to home and happy for a chance to revisit this Bowling Green park.  I was too late for most of the spring wildflowers, but still spotted a few on my walk.

13 April 2021 A Day Too Early

I planned to find an Adventure Lab near Warsaw, Indiana for an evening's activities.  I hadn't thought when I started that I would pass by Robinson Lake while on my way to Warsaw.  It had been nine years since my last visit to Robinson, but I remembered there were many wildflowers.  I thought I remembered spotting interesting spring wildflowers.  I was hoping to spot sessile trilliums as Indiana seems to be the state where I am most lucky.

I found many plants, but they were all a day or a few days from opening.  It was a bit of a disappointment, but hopefully I will remember to stop here in the future.

It was odd that this bloodroot was still opening.

There were still enough wildflowers in bloom to enjoy a woods walk.
