16 May 2021 Beaver Meadows

We were leaving Winchester hoping for a spring stop at Blandy Farm.  The weather did not cooperate.  We decided to stop at a Winchester park for some walking and geocaching.  It wasn't Blandy, but we enjoyed the park and the creative geocaching containers.

I counted momma mallard out with five duckilings for a park stroll.

On our way to the park we made our usual stop at the Virginia Farmers Market for apples and a cherry pie.

Shenendoah was waiting for us as it always is.  We were staying for the first time at Big Meadows.  Once in the park we began stopping at overlooks and enjoyed a few short walks as we made our way to our home for the week.

After checking in we decided to take a walk from the lodge area to Beaver Meadows.  We were hoping for a few bird and wildflower sightings.  Blue skies had moved into the area.

There were birds everywhere.  It was not my best photography day, but they were great to see.  American redstart sightings are infrequent for us.  This one kept moving through the trees about 30 feet off the path.

Bluebirds were everywhere.

This was my first spring visit to Shenendoah.  I had not been to Beaver Meadows before when the fields were just starting growth.

We were hoping for a visit to Old Rag on this journey.  It loomed over the meadow.

Normally on visits the vegetation blocks any view of the multiple survey posts within the meadow.

We over a mile from feet up and sunset from our balcony.
