25 March 2018 Erie National Wildlife Refuge
Our destination today was Erie National Wildlife Refuge for a clean-up day. We were here for the 2017 spring and happy to return to the site for this spring's clean-up. Last year a significant number of cachers showed up. This year, there were only four of us. Thankfully a couple local scout troops and their families were here to fill the void. Since we were without kids, we were given a state route along a property line.
A section of the area we cleaned was bordered by a one of the refuge's wetland areas.
Lots of colts foot today
We picked about five bags of garbage and a few tires from the side of the road.
These clean-ups are interesting for what shows up on the side of the road. Last year it was a discarded boyfriend cd. This year, Christmas treee ornaments.
The roadside also had things that were supposed to be there like skunk cabbage.
Once we were done with our section of the road and the trash was loaded, we headed off to a section of the refuge with a few geocaches we hadn't found. There was significantly more snow cover on the wooded trail. We missed the first find after searching this snowy bridge.
We were more successful at this old stone bridge. A quick wade in a very cold stream gave us an easy find.
