12 April 2017 Birding on the North Coast

It's become a tradition for us to take a day and go off together looking for birds, Our journey has expanded over the years from mostly Sheldon Marsh to Old Woman Creek, Huron beaches, Erie Metroparks, and Sheldon Marsh. Sometimes there are a few birds. Sometimes the weather is bitterly cold. This year there were lots of birds and the weather was perfect.
Wait! That's no bird! This Chevelle was sitting in the parking of Old Woman Creek. It isn't my favorite year, but the look is perfect vintage muscle car with a beautiful, black finish over Cragars. It was gorgeous. Old Woman Creek is often an unexpected mix. Last year there were ducks everywhere plus egrets, a blue heron and an eagle. This year, there were a host of herons a few bluebirds and brown creepers (with no pictures).
Nickel Plate Beach in Huron was perfect on this sunny day.
Horned Grebe
Ruddy Ducks
I'm not sure these painted turtles were happy to have a snapping turtle crash the party at Sheldon Marsh.
Ruby Crowned Kinglet
Gadwals
American Widgeon
Yellow Rumped Warbler
We had never seen a bald eagle fishing before our stop today at the Sheldon Marsh beach. We have seen eagles before perched near the old NASA pumping station. Today we were treated to the perched eagle launching from a tree, arcing over the water, and making a successful snag from the water.
Northern Shovelers
So and american widgeon, a northern shoveler, and a goose were standing together at the water's edge... sounds like the start of a joke.
