8 July 2022 A Pond in Mantua

I was out for a geocache find in Mantua.  After the find, I made my way to the Esker Glacial Trail.  I enjoyed a brief walk on the trail before stopping at an area near the Cuyahoga River.  The area had some pleasant wildlife watching/

5 July 2022 Wrapping Up The Holiday

With the holiday winding down, it was chores time with mowing on the list.  Pasture rose was in bloom.  I've not been able to identify the caterpillar on the flower in the lower image.

With recent showers it was a good day for spotting salamanders in the wooded areas.

4 July 2022 Timberdoodle Flats

We wanted to enjoy and easy walk with the dogs after there long visit to Quenhenna.  There were a few new caches at Timberdoodle Flats and an easy walk in the National Forest.

The open areas pass into denser regrowth.

It was a perfect time to spot oxalis in bloom at the edge of the woods.

Beavers had been busy since our last visit with a large dam and lodge.

The loop brought us back to an open field with wildflowers, butterflies and bluebirds nesting.

1 July 2022 Burton Wetlands

Burton Wetlands used to be a great place for birds of prey to nest.  It seems to be losing favor among osprey and eagles.  We stopped by to walk the dogs in the field and made the journey to the viewing platform at the kettle lake to see if there was a nest.  Sadly the water seemed quiet of all including waterfowl.

The field yielded nice bird sightings with common yellowthroats, song sparrows, and bluebirds using the nesting boxes.

29 June 2022 Returning to Eagle Marsh

I had a free evening during a week of corporate meetings so I decided to make a visit to Eagle Marsh.  I was walking the dirt road back and greeted by a number of young bluebirds testing their wings.

It is a peaceful oasis and great for an evening's walk.

There was no shortage of herons this evening in the marsh.  I believe this was the largest gathering I have seen.  There is no rookery visible while walking, but I expect there is one deeper in the marsh.

27 June 2022 Walking Along The Maumee

I was headed to the Fort Wayne area for a business meeting and stopped near the Maumee River for a bit of walking.  Wasn't expecting to see multiple great blue herons out for the afternoon fishing.

I was also treated to spotting a few soft shelled turtles before it was time to resume my drive.

13 June 2022 Office Birds

My office window is at the right height to look out  and occasionally spot birds.  Today, I was treated to a bluebird and a cedar waxwing.

12 June 2022 Visiting Stan Hywett Gardens

Walking around the grounds of Stan Hywett Gardens can leave one feeling as though you are moving through a series of post cards.  It is a beautiful place to visit.  A number of years ago the site began hosting an annual series of geocaches.  They proved a great reason to spend on summer afternoon here each year.

11 June 2022 Cruise Night

I still enjoy seeing these old dinosaurs.  It had been a rainy afternoon, but the rain held off long enough for a visit.

The owner of this Corvair was happy to talk for a bit.  It was a fun time hearing the history of this beauty.
