Since I had been ill for over a month, we were out of time to locate the caches for the Winterfest Event. It was this weekend or... The day was brutal. The trails were almost all ice and the damp cold was biting. We had hoped to locate the hiding spots for eight event caches and hunt the Legacy of Conservation cache for a find. After about fifteen minutes of searching, we gave up on finding the DCNR cache and just counted down the number of remaining hiding spots.
I'm not sure what will happen with the Winterfest if it doesn't get really cold in a hurry. The lake is open water. The sledding hill is grass. The dog sled trails were melting ice. I'm certain I won't be walking across Chapman Lake on January 22.
Chapman Lake had an eerie beauty today with the fog. The fog got deeper as the day progressed. By the time we were done and ready to head for Subie, it was hard to see the mountains in the distance. On the way back we ran into Mr. we3jeepers on his way back to his Geomobile. He was down since there won't be ice fishing anytime soon. He commented that he had been on the ice fishing about two weeks prior. It's funny that we ran into him at Chapman last year too when we were plotting out the event caches.
