23 February 2023 Panola Mountain State Park

It was a grey day to visit the granite mountains of Panola State Park, but the weather held off for most of the day and a great time was had exploring new trails.

We heard the sandhill cranes before we saw them take flight.  There were about twice as many as shown in the image.  It was an unexpected delight.

We're not used to seeing trout lilies in the woods this early.  Our Georgia visit gave us an early chance to enjoy these pleasant blossoms of early spring.

Spotting a tiger swallowtail in February was an unexpected treat.

It's waiting for me...

Why hello

This remains the smallest turtle I have ever seen.

Soft shell gathering on a log.

This quiet tree with a picnic table looked like a perfect place for a quiet picnic or a rest on the trail.

22 February 2023 Traveling North

We were headed north on the back portion of our vacation.  We stopped for a few geocache finds in Mcrae, Georgia.  This old 5 Chevy was parked on the street while we were walking.  There was a speed shop next to the old Chevy.  On the other side was a place called Gene.

The Gene is an old movie theater build in the 1950's.  Sadly the theater closed and all the furnishings were sold.  A new owner is trying to bring it back.  I hope the effort succeeds.

21 February 2023 Navigating the Okeefenokee

Being on the water is an awesome journey.  There are sights to see on each shore, in the water, and up in the trees.

Birds were everywhere... and alligators.

Babies on the back

They are never far away.

Always watching.

20 February 2023 Laura S Walker State Park

Sunshine and pines while geocaching were on call for the day.  Laura S. Walker State Park is a state park with a golf course which usually isn't our favorite place, but there were enough trails to keep us interested.

Today had no alligator sightings, but we spotted a smaller eastern fence lizard on our journey.

19 February 2023 Okefenokee

It was a beautiful, sunny day to be on the trail and geocaching.
