15 May 2009 Vacation Day

I drove from Sanborn to PA and took a vacation day to get chores done around the house. The yard work was boring except for the gold metal-flake spider. Despite locking myself out, I was done with chores by the time Ali arrived and wanted to go out and play. We headed for Hearts Content to grab a few newer caches in the area plus an old one I had finally solved. We were surprised to find painted trilliums in Hearts Content. We've never seen them there before. After a small hike through the woods and spending time discussing orienteering with another hiker we met, we made our way back home. On the way we stopped by a guardrail micro on Route 6. Since we were there after hours, we left the geomobile and walked down the dirt road to check out the viaduct. The Viaduct was constructed in 1860. It was nice engineering work and is still quite a sight today. Walking through the viaduct is a bit like entering Toon Town. On one side of the viaduct is the traffic of Route 6 and a hodge-podge of businesses. On the other, woods and a pleasant stream.
