13 May 2009 Bond Lake
There's so many new caches at Bond Lake that it seems to be my only destination these days while in the Falls. Visits to Bond Lake are a strange event. In most towns, this park would be a treasured jewel. The lakes are clear and there is a nice variety of habitat and wildlife. There are parts of the park that still have carpets of wildflowers in the spring. It should be a winter magnet with outstanding cross-country skiing. Instead, it is used by very few people and abused by more. Many areas of the park have deteriorated to a point where CITO is impossible.
This evening, I found two caches. The first was at the end of a long walk around one of the small 'lakes' within the park. I was the only person in this area of the park. It was peaceful. It was quiet with just the sounds of birds along the shoreline. Once I got past the butchered deer carcus in the parking lot and the trashed out trails, the walk around the lake was amazing. The easiest path to thiw cache was hopping from rock-to-rock along the shoreline. There were good-sized pan fish visible in the water along the shore. Ground zero was at the end of a small strip of land that jutted out into the water. The cache earned its 3 1/2 terrain rating at the very end. I stayed dry and sat for a long time on the edge of the lake just enjoying the moment.
