26 July 2017 More Climbing in Monterrey

The audit was over and successful so I headed out with my local engineer to explore more the mountain trails in the area. The car image below shows our target for the afternoon, the communications tower in the left of the image. The area is known as Saddle Hill or Cerro de la Silla

This was the first location in the area where I have hiked which included a warning for bears.

The trail was mostly rock with some areas of concrete. We climbed quickly and were given some great views of the town below, including the large soccer stadium.

Most visitors stopped at this shrine during their walks.

Interesting colors in the rocks

This was the landing platform of a tramway completed in 1961 to bring visitors up the mountain, The tramway had only one catastrophic run as the designer and several first riders were killed in an accident at about 3300 m. The upper landing is the only remaining pieces of the tramway which failed on its first ride.

The ever present grafitti

The structure seems rather minimal for being expected to hold the weight of many people and function in the winds I have seen in Monterrey.

The view from one of the equipment platforms looks out over the mountains which close in the other side of Monterrey.

Before returning, we headed into a nearby cave to search for a cache which appears to be gone.

There were many daddy longleg or harvestman spiders in the cave.

The sun was retreating behind a distant mountain as we finished our return from this mountain.
