3 October 2018 Swallow Falls

This was a big destination on our vacation.  Our visits to Swallow Falls go back to our early days.  Each return is memorable and happy.  With four years since our last visit, we were eager to return.

We have been here for visits where flow was so low that we could walk across the river at the of the falls.  Today the water ran strong and dangerous.

The water flow was strong enough to challenge kayaks and inflatables passing through.

The falls are always an awesome treat.

In September 2009, I walked across the top of the falls.  Today, I gave a long distance view of the fast flowing water.

Despite all our visits we had never walked the other side of the river.  We fixed that today with a journey along the other side and more wonderful views.

All that water has to start somewhere.

We made our way from Swallow Falls to another favorite stop at the Cranesville Sub-Artic Swamp.  When we have been here in mid-September, we are usually treated to orchids.  A couple weeks made a big difference with no sign of orchid blossoms or plants.  Our return and walk through the colors was still happy.

We also spotted our first brown snake.  This non-venomous snake was out sunning in the late afternoon.

We ended our day with a challenge cache at an overlook with some fun carvings

and a pleasant sunset.
