25 August 2018 McKean County Virtual
A new virtual had been published in McKean. We knew where the virtual was as we had visited the location and the subject of the virtual in the past. It's a great area to hike with long trails and a super rock structure at the virtual. We were happy for the return.
Since I was really behind in caching and not updating my GSAK files, I often had caches that are archived in your gps. Sometimes the cache owner has been lazy on retrieving the hide or just decided to leave geo-litter. We made a couple early finds with these caches hidden in some nice birch tree roots and a few other oddities.
We eventually made our way to the trail back to the rocks. We enjoy the butterflies on the open sections of the trail.
Our early journey was a pleasant walk in the woods.
Then we came to the blowdown. It brought back flashbacks and memories of last year's visit to Brush Hollow.
We eventually made our way to the hide location. The dogs enjoyed a long water break.
The area where we stopped for a break isn't the exact virtual location. It is a hunting and hiking shelter that has been in use for nearly 70 years.
Lizzie decided to rest in the leaves of a tree while waiting for us to re-find the virtual location.
The moss covered rocks are a fun visit and a great place to take a break.
We took a different, longer path back to avoid the blowdown. The trail was dotted with late summer wildflowers.
That's quite a beaver dam.
The dam has created quite a pond.
Despite the blowdown, we had a great time for the afternoon and enjoyed revisiting this location.
