30 May 2008 Chestnut Ridge (again)

Finding all the caches in this park is a goal for this year. Finding about 200 orchids was the surprise of a lifetime. After spending a week in the area and finishing another big milestone at work, I was going caching no matter how sick I've been. After wavering between chasing the plentiful bunny caches that now grace the area or parking the geomobile and enjoying this amazing place, I made the right choice. I spent the night in severe pain, but may never again see this many orchids. Oh, and six more Chestnut Ridge caches have been found :-).

25 May 2008 Caching Lorain County

We wanted to reach 200 cache finds in ten counties this year. Lorain is one of the counties on our wish list. We wanted to do something really fun and ended up in Oberlin, a true college town. Today was alumni day (we aren't). Dodging muggles posed some challenges, but actually gave us some cover as well. The town wanted to keep the alums happy ($$$$$) so we could pretty much park anywhere and go anywhere with immunity. The alums also helped be showing up all over town. We parked the car, got some great exercise, and had a fun day. Oh, I also now know that buckeye trees have these great looking blossoms. :-)

24 May 2008 Caching Pymatuning

It was strangely quiet here for a holiday weekend. Gas prices seem to have finally taken a toll. We worked our way around the lake and ended the day at the causeway on the Pennsylvania side. It was fun watching the phoebe flit around near the viewing platform.

Ali keeps saying the surgeon told her she should be exercising. I'm not so sure that means geocaching :-0. These were level terrain so I guess that counts.

10 May 2008 Hiking in a Bowl

We stopped for a cache called Fools Creek Cache by a newer cacher. The location was really impressive. Starting from the parking area, you pass through large rocks and drop down into a large depression. You cross the depression and pass into the rocks on the other side of the bowl to find a large cave with the cache. It was an outstanding location complete with painted trilliums almost at the cache site.

10 May 2008 Visiting the Tanbark Trail

We're not sure when Ali will be able to hike again so we headed off to the Tanbark in search of early painted trilliums. It seemed fitting since this was a place where we first hit the trail together. The last six weeks have been really stressful and filled with questions. Today was a good time to enjoy being together.
8 May 2008 Berea Falls and more

My plane was on time for once so we got to go to a coffee event at one of my favorite places, The Book and Bean. Before the event, we went for a few caches and did a little exploring. We enjoyed stopping for an earthcache at Berea Falls and an earthcache at the old quarry, but we were taken by the sea of Virginia Bluebells along a bridle trail in the Rocky River Reservation. It was great to close the day with a visit with friends, a pleasure I don't get to enjoy so much these days.

A Three Terrain - Dishman Hills Style

After a night's rest and finishing my work at the office, I headed for another great evening of fun at this wonderful place. At the end of the day, I had three cache finds including two puzzles. In the two days, I found four caches and hiked ten miles. It was great. There is a picture below marked three terrain. They don't grow caches like this back east :-). Enjoy the photos. It has been interesting seeing Dishman at different times of the year. It will be interesting to see the park as summer passes.
