31 May 2008 Beaver Meadows
It had rained on and off all day. When we got here the rain had just stopped. The reservoir made for a great panorama. We used to walk Beaver Meadows a lot with Becky and Murray until Murray's fear of bridges really took control. There's a small bridge heading into the woods and a boardwalk across a big stretch of swamp. The boardwalk floats so it sinks and sways as you walk across. It's always fun for the kids in us, but the experience was so bad for Murray we stopped coming here. Gwen is almost as afraid of bridges as Murray was. So we still don't come here often.
Today we were alone and had a great time visiting the familiar parts of this area. We also added a stretch of trail on an old railroad bed that heads into a large wetland. We were thrilled to see all the orchids on the trail, and Ali spotted a new wildflower, bunchberry. I'm not certain how happy she was with me calling it crunch berry ;-). It was a quiet peaceful day with a few caches thrown in.
