2 October 2017 Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge

We arrived happily expecting a day of hiking and new sights. We weren't disappointed. The elevation isn't that high, but the trails, terrain, and views were all we expected.

Our first of two types of lizards we spotted on the trail.

We spotted these very tiny flowers near the top of one of our climbs.

Grey hairstreak butterfly on false purple thistle.

The lichen here is colorful and plentiful on the rock structures.

Prairie dogs a cute. They are fun to watch.

As the day wore down, we came on a stand of pines where it appeared migrating butterflies were settling for the evening.
