2 March 2019 Canalway Walk

Canalway had its first new caches in a long time so we planned a Saturday visit to this reclaimed park which passes through Cleveland's industrial past.

The area now has beavers.

I wasn't sure why there was a random set of railcar trucks just sitting on a small section of track.

The trucks weren't far from an old rail marker for the defunct Newbury and South Shore Railway.

We were both hoping the birding would be good.  We spotted a few mallards along the water and a few other common birds.

Our birding luck changed with a few red-winged blackbirds spotted as we reached a wetlands area.  Soon after we were treated to multiple mergansers on the water.

We had finished the last of the geocache finds and were headed back to parking when the bird sightings really got interesting.  We spotted four different great blue herons before Ali spotted the first of three eagles flying.  They eventually settled in the same tree.  I was losing light, but did the best to capture images of all three.
