4 July 2019 Caching in the ANF

Our day was more peaceful than last year's fourth when Phineas decided to take an adventure while I chased him. He was with us today as we made our way to the ANF for a series of caches hidden along a forest road. It was a good day for wildflowers, amphibians, and butterflies.

Whorled loosestrife was plentiful today.

Overbrowsing from deer leave space in the woods for ferns to take over an area.  It is a lush area during the summer, but creates a system where many native plants are forced out.

Every journey that has plenty of stream opportunities for the dogs to splash is a happy one for them.

Sunshine and a stream, Lizzie's happy.

I don't know any of the information about the person located at what appears to be a roadside grave.  The wooden marker bears the name Turner with a veteran's marker and a flag someone had placed for the holiday.  The stones on the image are the edge of a grouping which are large enough to cover a burial site.  While I am certain there are other older now unmarked burial site's from old homesteads within the ANF, this one is different for being alongside the road.
