Ramps are a wild edible. For years, they seemed to be everywhere near our home in Pennsylvania, but not at our property. That all changed last spring when we finally found a stand. I was patiently waiting for spring to harvest a few and try them in a dish. Then COVID hit with an order to not travel to PA without a double quarantine (OH and PA). That visit won't be happening. Instead we are spending non-work time alone together in Ohio parks. This evening we visited Metzenbaum Park in Geauga. We've known this park had plentiful ramps for years, but this year's growth was nearly a carpet. They can't be picked in the park, but they are tantalizing to see. The plants also leave a faint odor of garlic and onions in the air.
