We were out for an afternoon of caching with Liz and Wes. We spent most of the day at Jakes Rocks. Jakes Rocks is a recreational area that is being targeted for gas well drilling. Lining Route 59 with wells on either side of the road and letting the facilities at the beaches and campgrounds fall into disrepair hasn't been enough to kill tourism in the area so drilling in recreation areas seems like the next logical step.
A local conservation group was out hiking in the area and spotted a number of chestnuts. The one below with Liz, Ali, and Wes is the tallest of the bunch. We have some taller ones on our property and have seen taller ones near Baker's Rocks, but this was the tallest we have seen with no sign of blight.
