Marshallville is a small town that was once a railroad stop. Today the old railroad grade is a bike/hike trail and the reason for our visiting this quiet, little town on a very cold day.
I didn't expect to be birding on the trail. It went from small to medium to large with a junco, a rough-legged hawk, and a very surprising eagle. Both the hawk and eagle appeared to be actively hunting the farm field. Maybe there were small rodents waiting to become a meal.
It was a bitterly cold afternoon. In northeast Ohio one either stays indoors and waits for longer, brighter, warmer days or one goes out and makes something of the miserable weather. Three birds and a few deer spotted while walking together with the dogs moves the world one more day closer to the next spring and gives back a few memories. Besides, there is always hot chocolate and a blanket waiting at home.
