29 April 2012 Spotting a Loon at Dike 14

This was our first visit to Dike 14. The area was closed as a dredge disposal site in 1999, but remained off limits for 13 years. Cleveland was behind the curve in finally agreeing to open this former Army Corps dredging area as a nature preserve, but better late than never. Ali spotted a few warblers on our walk (which I of course was unable to capture with the camera), but the big highlight was our first-ever spotting of a loon in the small harbor area. While this area may never reach the importance of Sheldon Marsh for birding, it is an hour closer to home for us and sure to get more visits.
