16 July 2017 Chapman State Park
It was a super day for a walk in Chapman State Park. We had a half dozen unfound caches in the park. They had been placed by friends. Chapman will be closing soon for an extended time as the state removes and replaces the dam in the park.
Orange coral fungus was quite common this summer.
Northern Pearly-Eye Dorsal
One of the few monarda we saw this summer
This lady slipper did not spike this spring.
After we left Chapman, we made our way back to a prior dnf location. We both climbed the rock structure for the previous hide with no success making the find. Today, I was going alone as Ali couldn't risk the climb with her injured knee. i walked around the base of the rock trying to find our last path up. After a few minutes, I decided to pass on the climb. Somethimes it is better to wait for a different day. The rcok formation in the area is still quite impressive.
Helleborine is an invasive orchid, but not very aggressive on our area. We usually spot a few throughout the property each year. This one was blooming near the base of our stairs.
